In 2001, DaanModern (aka Billie from Betty & Billie's BeatBoutique) was playing Thursday nights at the Fietsznfabriek but rapidly conquered a spot at the weekend. Unfortunately, however, the Fietznfabriek had to close its doors so instead, she applied her eclectic, dance-oriented style to wedding gigs and private parties (Woodstock, Club Calypso, Club 8 and Ladies Lounge). She's currently resident deejay at De Toneelschuur, Pacific Parc, Van Gogh Museum (on Friday nights), De Parade and at the huge retro-parties held at The Lichtfabriek in Haarlem. Her style has developed into pure Sixties; steamy soul, funk, popcorn, French cuts, boogaloo, bounching ska, jazz-related shizzle and hard-rockin’ hits of all modern ages – best described as 'the savage girlsound'...

She particularly loves spinning with 7 inches. "Why? That's obvious! It sounds good and looks even better!" In the summer of 2005, she met her DJ-partner Charlie in The Garden of Love at Pinkpop. Could it have been more romantic? Both shared a passion for old singles, colourful dresses and making crowds go ecstatic! Forced to play back-to-back that first time, they are still happily married... and Betty and Billie's BeatBoutique was born! Every two months, The BeatBoutique rocks in Club 8, at Zandvoort's [A]Live Beach Festival and at De Parade, with bounching beats, brutal Boogie Woogie and lots of Bam Bam! Betty Boop, Burt Bacharach, Brigitte Bardot, The Beach Boys and Boots Brown? They all went to the BeatBoutique!

How did you choose it?
You probably know that feeling when you’re in France, in a very small village and there's a bar called "Le Moderne" – yet it doesn’t look modern at all. You step in and you see formica tables, hypnotic, robust dressers and a pinball machine...? This feeling is important in the perception of DaanModern’s music. What is Modern? Modern does not exist. It’s just a word which originated in the 60s. 'Modern' covers everything; from all times. Therefore, a broad scale of music – with the 60s as starting point.

Vinyl junkie or CDs?
Vinyl, of course. 7-inch junkie to be specific. Well, now and then I do play a CD – but only when i don't feel like dragging loads of records around...

How many records/CDs do you have?
About 1,500 7-inches; 800 albums and 700 CDs (containing lots of shit as well)

What style of music do you play?
Steamy soul, funk, popcorn, French cuts, boogaloo, bounching ska, jazz-related shizzle and hard rockin' hits of all modern ages. Best described as 'The savage girlsound'.

Your ideal DJ gig?
An outside festival in the sun. A good sound, an easy, critical, creative, 25+ tipsy audience. And, of course, Pacific Parc: thats always the nicest gig!
