Kondratieff started his career early last century as an economist in Russia. In the late 1920s, Stalin had him deported to Siberia never to return. However, in 2005, Kondratieff surprisingly returned to launch a new career as a DJ. Instead of economic theorizing and boring statistics, it's now all about pulsating beats, catchy songs and rocking tunes. Kondratieff spins songs from the last three-and-a-half decades.

How did you choose It?
Fascination with this poor old economist who disappeared in Siberia in the late 1920s. I gave him a new lease of life.

Vinyl junkie or CDs?
Ah, now I'm all about vinyl. For DJing, however, I tend to only use CDs nowadays.

How many records/CDs do you have?
Haven't counted them in a while but I'd say about 700 LPs, 300 7"s and 500 or so CDs.

What style of music do you play?
New wave, indie, punk, electro, goth, retro, Britpop, rock, some hip
hop and whatever else makes me (and hopefully the crowd), happy.

Where do you DJ?
I used to only DJ at home. Now I mainly DJ on Friday nights in ACU (www.acu.nl) in Utrecht and occasionally elsewhere. Recently I played at the launch of the special music issue of Zoo Magazine, in Amsterdam, and am always looking for more opportunities to spin.

Your ideal DJ gig?
As long as the people keep on moving to the beat, I'm pretty happy. However preferably a mix of popular tunes and more obscure and/or older stuff.

Last record/CD you bought?
Atari Teenage Riot - Burn, Berlin, Burn! ;)

Current musical obsession?
IAMX, Melody Club and a lot of the 'new' indie stuff, besides that
there's always a few constant factors like Einstürzende Neubauten, Joy Division, The Smiths, The Damned, Black Flag and Coil to name just a few.

All time, that's tricky, but for now let me say:

Favourite internet radio station
In the 80s I was addicted to 'The John Peel Show'. Nowadays I'm not much of a radio person anymore... neither traditional nor internet. Sometimes if I'm home on Saturday night I listen to 'Club Casablanca' on KinkFM.
