DJ Bex is a Scottish lass who moved to Amsterdam for a job in 2001. She planned to stay for a couple of years – but five years on she's still here and really enjoying everything that the beautiful city has to offer. She met her DJ buddy (DJ Dash) at Lowlands Festival 2005, chatted music for four days, and then was offered the opportunity to step up to the decks at his Club Rascal night in October 2005. The rest, as they say, is history.

How did you choose It?
I have always had my name shortened to Bex by my friends so it was kinda natural just to keep it simple and make that my DJ name too. I took out the 'e' as I liked the symmetry.

Vinyl junkie or CDs?
Ahhh, vinyl was my first love... but CD's do a very good job and take up less space in my tiny Amsterdam apartment!

How many records/CDs do you have?
More and more every week – it's getting outta control. Say around 1,000 CDs at the last stocktake.

What style of music do you play?
At Club Rascal, the code words are indie and pop, with a hint of rock. I want to play that one song on the album that you keep skipping back to because it so ROCKS! The best thing has got to be when you start a song and someone on the dancefloor cheers because they love that song – it's a great feeling!

Where do you DJ?
At Club Rascal, in Club 8 (Amsterdam), every third Sat of the month. Also, in the last few months, DJ Dash and myself have played tunes at several events including a pop quiz evening and an opening at a rock photography gallery.

Your ideal DJ gig?
I am a bit of a sucker for culture and art so LOVE mixing the two together. I hope to have more opportunities to DJ in galleries in the future.

David Bowie – Hunky Dory

Current musical obsession?
Listening to new bands on MySpace.com. Trying to keep up with the constant creation of UK indie pop bands.

Top 3 all-time dancefloor favourites?
Belle & Sebastian, The Pixies and Michael Jackson

Worst request?
Huey Lewis and News – The Power of Love (I assumed they were joking, although they looked VERY serious at the time.)

Favourite record stores in Amsterdam?
Staying loyal to my local record store – Brutus.

Favourite internet radio station
BBC Radio 1 – A great way to keep up with new bands.
