DJ Natashka

DJNatashka.jpg

Originally from Montréal, the largest French-speaking city in the world after Paris, DJ Natashka plays French-language music from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Back in Canada she studied live and studio sound recording at an expensive private college before it was approved by the government as a proper study and spent many years on the radio spinning and presenting in French and English.

Real name?
Natasha Cloutier

DJ name?
DJ Natashka

How did you choose It?
Natasha was taken and Natashka is the closest diminutive in Russian.

Vinyl junkie or CDs?
Right now, mostly CDs because of my online web radio, but I'm buying up vinyl at the speed of sound.

How many records/CDs do you have?
About 300 well-chosen CDs and 150 LPs and 45s. I sold a lot when I moved here.

What style of music do you play?
French-language music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, especially yéyé and jazz.

Where do you DJ?
At the moment, I'm still a nomad. As of late, the Winston and Festina Lente. As I write this, I have a gig coming up at the Odeon.

Your ideal DJ gig?
I'd love to spin in Paris and Brussels. However, I enjoy the challenge of playing in a non-French-speaking country. It makes every gig count.

Last record/CD you bought?
A pile of 45s including a brilliant EP of Claude Nougaro.

Current musical obsession?
Trying to find non-French artists singing in French. I want more!

Top 3 all-time dancefloor favourites?
"1990" by Jean Leloup
Many songs by Dany Brillant
Many songs by Les Rita Mitsouko

Worst request?
Birthday songs. Once out of every two gigs I get a request. Genoeg! (Enough!)

Favourite record stores in Amsterdam?
The Netherlands has no French music store, which is perfectly understandable, and the prices as compared to nearby Belgium are way too high. I do buy from Record Mania and Concerto.

Favourite internet radio station
Radio Oh La La and Secret Agent from Soma FM

Do you have your own website?
www.oh-la-la.nl
