DJ Lava has had Amsterdam as his base city since July 2000 where he spreads his contagious 'música fantástica'. It's an energetic mix of house, electro, techno, funk, acid, rock, punk... Besides deejaying, he is also a music producer and released the 12" EP Strobolight, together with Eldit, in February 2005 (distributed by Lowlands Records). He likes the fact that music is like a spell that puts everyone together on the dance floor.

How did you choose It?
It was like a joke of my friends saying that my music is hot like lava... From that moment they started calling me Lava.

Vinyl junkie or CDs?
Vinyl! I like to touch the record when I'm playing, but I also use CDs.

How many records/CDs do you have?
Over 2000 vinyls and I have no idea how many CDs.

What style of music do you play?
It's an energetic mix of techno, house, electro, funk, acid, rock, punk... I like to play records that sounds good to my ears and that people might appreciate and react to. I always try to keep it fresh and surprising to the audience's years.

Where do you DJ?
Resident at UNK (Club 8, Amsterdam) and regular at Artlaunch (Melkweg-Max, Amsterdam). Here and there at other parties in Amsterdam and sometimes I get gigs outside The Netherlands like Paris and São Paulo. For more info check the Dates section of my website (below).

Your ideal DJ gig?
When I can play for at least two hours and keep the crowd with a big smile on their faces during that time reacting to every record I play. When it happens, I feel the exchange of good vibe between me and people. It's like flirting... I get kick out of it!

To produce music is my current obsession. At the moment, I'm working in my home-studio on the follow-up to the 12" EP I released in February.
